Scott Lang, CHAIRMAN, PRESIDENT AND CEO
Scott Lang, Chairman, President and CEO, joined Silver Spring Networks as the company's founding chief executive in 2004. Scott brings more than 25 years of leadership, marketing, sales and management experience in the services and utility industries. Prior to Silver Spring Networks, Scott first worked with Ross Perot at Electronic Data Systems and then joined Perot Systems in 1988, shortly after the company’s founding. During his career at Perot Systems, Scott spent 10 years in Europe building the company’s international business and went on to lead the Strategic Markets Group, which served the Global Energy, Communications, Media, and Travel and Transportation industries. Scott holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi and an Executive MBA from The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Under Scott’s leadership, Silver Spring Networks was named a 2008 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer. In 2009, Scott was named Ernst & Young’s 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year in Northern California in the clean tech category and Responsible CEO of the Year in the Private Company category by the editors of CRO Magazine. Scott and his wife Karen, have four daughters.
Jordan Breslow, GENERAL COUNSEL
Jordan joins Silver Spring with more than 25 years of experience guiding technology companies through complex legal and business transactions. Previously, Jordan served as Vice President and General Counsel of two highly successful private-to-public technology companies and as a partner in two leading technology law firms. As General Counsel, Vice President and Secretary of Opsware, Jordan successfully guided the company from start-up through an IPO and on to its sale to HP for $1.65 billion. Jordan also served as Legal Counsel for Cisco Systems; Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Practice Group at Foster Pepper & Shefelman; and General Counsel and Managing Director, European Operations for Geoworks. Jordan earned his J.D. from Hastings College of the Law and his B.A. summa cum laude from San Francisco State University. Jordan drives a low-emission hybrid vehicle and reduces his household footprint through extensive recycling and the use of compact fluorescent bulbs, solar-powered exterior lighting, and energy-efficient appliances.
Amy Cappellanti-Wolf, HUMAN RESOURCES
Amy brings broad, cross-industry experience from her human resources executive roles with Cisco, Sun, Disney and Frito-Lay. Most recently, she served as VP of Human Resources at Cisco Systems, where she designed cutting-edge leadership development programs, talent identification and acquisition strategies and built the human resources roadmap for the company. Amy has a MS in Industrial and Labor Relations and a BS in Journalism and Public Relations, both from West Virginia University. Amy’s passions center around creating a sustainable planet. She and her husband Doug are involved with a foundation that is helping preserve the Amazon rain forest, having saved nearly a half million Acai palm trees to date.
Eric Dresselhuys, MARKETS
Eric has been with Silver Spring since it was founded in 2002. Eric has more than ten years of experience in advanced metering and communications sales and marketing. He has held various roles in customer development, new product development and product introductions. Eric has presented a number of technical and commercial papers related to advanced metering and smart grid technologies and was a founder of OpenAMI. He currently serves on the board of directors of the DRSG Coalition (Demand Response and Smart Grid) and has served on the Automatic Meter Reading Association’s (AMRA) Marketing and Development Committee. Eric previously spent nine years at Procter & Gamble in various sales and marketing roles. He holds a B.S. in economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Last summer Eric installed solar-powered lights around his home.
George Flammer, CHIEF SCIENTIST
George has more than 20 years of experience in software and hardware development, most recently as Director of Communications Technology at Metricom where he was a key contributor to the design and development of the Ricochet high-speed data radio product and data service. In 1998 George co-founded G3M Corporation and served as its CTO where his primary responsibility was the design and development of the Panthera product line. George joined Rosum in September 2002 as Director of Systems Engineering, where he directed multidisciplinary teams in the development of real-world indoor positioning. George earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and has authored more than 20 domestic and international patents. Warren Jenson, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Warren has over 25 years of experience guiding industry-leading companies through product and service expansion, globalization, complex private and public financings and profitability. He has been recognized for his visionary leadership by Institutional Investor having been named as one of the best CFOs in America. Before joining Silver Spring, Warren served as CFO for Electronic Arts, Amazon.com and Delta Airlines. Prior to that, he worked in several positions as part of the General Electric Company. Most notably, he was a GE Corporate officer and served as CFO and Senior Vice President of the National Broadcasting Company. Warren earned his Masters of Accountancy-Business Taxation and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brigham Young University. He and his family are all ardent recyclers and recently remodeled their home with energy efficient appliances and lighting as well as a water-saving irrigation system.
Judy Lin, CHIEF PRODUCT OFFICER
Judy brings more than 20 years of experience leading both start-ups and established businesses. Prior to joining Silver Spring, Judy was Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cisco's Ethernet Switching Technology Group, responsible for Catalyst 2000 and 3000 product families. Previously, she was Senior Vice President and General Manager at Electronics for Imaging, a leading provider of imaging solutions. In 1996, Judy joined VeriSign as a founding member of its development team, where she played an instrumental role in building technology, infrastructure and products that enabled the company to achieve $1.5 billion in annual revenue. While at VeriSign, she served as Senior Vice President overseeing product development, IT services and infrastructure operations and as Executive Vice President and General Manager for the security services division. Early in her career, Judy held a variety of software development and management roles at Taligent, Apple Computer and Hewlett-Packard. She holds dual bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and European History from the University of California, Berkeley. Judy incorporates green living in all aspects of her life. She has installed a solar water heater and compact fluorescent bulbs, drives a hybrid car, recycles, and worked with the city of Palo Alto on becoming a green city.
Gary Gysin, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, WORLDWIDE SALES
Gary brings more than 20 years of experience in key leadership positions driving go-to-market strategies and delivering worldwide revenue growth in highly competitive markets to his role as EVP of Worldwide Sales at Silver Spring. He has extensive cross-functional experience in both public and private start-ups, leading the development and introduction of innovative, award-winning enterprise and mid-market software and hardware infrastructure products. Most recently, Gary was an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at USVP focused on infrastructure opportunities in cloud services, networking and storage, and smart grid. Previously, he was President and CEO of Asempra Technologies, the market-leading instant recovery solution for Windows applications and data. Gary led the company from late stage development through first revenue and guided the successful sale of the company to BakBone Software in early 2009. Gary also served as Vice President of Sales and Service at McData Corporation, where he was responsible for setting and executing strategies that resulted in exponential worldwide revenue growth through the expansion of strategic partnerships, acquisitions, and customer and channel relationships. He was also Vice President of Software and General Manager Sanera/Nishan while at McData. Earlier roles include Senior Vice President of products and Vice President of product management and business development at Volera, a majority owned subsidiary of Novell. Gary has also held a variety of executive leadership roles including President and CEO of PGSoft, leading the company through five successful years culminating in the company's sale to Novell, and vice president of Sales/Marketing at Crosswise Corporation, WorldTalk and Touch Communications. Gary holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of California Santa Cruz. Gary and his family are fanatical recyclers in addition to having CFLs throughout their home.
John O’Farrell, PARTNERS
John has more than 25 years of US and international experience in business development and operational roles. Previously, he was Executive Vice President, Business Development, at Opsware, a leading provider of data center automation software. At Opsware, John was responsible for four successful acquisitions, strategic partnerships with EDS and Cisco, and the ultimate sale of Opsware to HP for $1.65 billion in September 2007. Prior to Opsware, John was Executive Vice President, International for Excite@Home. Earlier in his career, John held positions in the U.S. and Europe with US West, Booz Allen, Telecom Ireland and the European Commission. John has an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he graduated as an Arjay Miller Scholar, and a Bachelor of Electronic Engineering from University College Dublin. John has co-organized a “Cool Campaign” to reduce household carbon emissions in his local school district, outfitted his home with compact fluorescent bulbs and solar panels, and is proud of cutting his household’s electricity consumption by 30% over the past three years.
Raj Vaswani, CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER /strong>
Raj has been with Silver Spring since 2003, and brings more than 10 years of innovation, product development and product management experience in the Internet, software and networking industries to the Company. Prior to joining Silver Spring, Raj was an Entrepreneur in Residence with Foundation Capital. Prior to Foundation Capital, Raj served as Vice President of Engineering at Epinions.com (now shopping.com), a high-traffic consumer-oriented Web site. Previously, Raj was Senior Scientist and Director of Engineering for the @Home Network (later Excite@Home). Raj holds a MS in Computer Science from the University of Washington and a BS in EECS from the University of California at Berkeley. Raj is an avid recycler and took the lead responsibility for Silver Spring's paperless office initiative.
Brad Whitcomb, SMART GRID SERVICES
Brad joins Silver Spring with a deep understanding of domestic and international operations. Most recently, Brad was VP of Marketing and Customer Innovation at PG&E where he was responsible for marketing, product development, sales and support for demand-side products and services, including Energy Efficiency, Distributed Solar, Demand Response, Smart Meters, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), and Emerging Products. Previously, Brad held a variety of senior leadership roles in marketing, corporate development, and operations in the telecommunications sector at companies including Vodafone, Japan Telecom and Airtouch. Brad holds an MBA from Saint Mary's College and a BA in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. At home, Brad enjoys tending to his organic garden and is an avid composter.
