Measurement Canada Officially Approves the Silver Spring Networks’ enabled GE I-210+™
Redwood City, CA, January 3, 2008 - Silver Spring Networks, a leading provider of Smart Energy Networks, announced today that Measurement Canada has officially approved GE’s I-210+™ enabled with the Silver Spring Network’s Network Interface Card (NIC) for revenue service in Canada.
Canada and Ontario are at the forefront of deploying new metering strategies, energy saving and energy efficiency programs. The I-210+ meter equipped with SSN NIC enables a highly flexible and extensible, IP-based, 2-way Smart Energy Network that covers the territory from the data center to the customer premise. With the I-210+ and a Silver Spring Networks’ Smart Energy Network in place, utilities can communicate more efficiently with their customers, empowering them to control and reduce their energy use, as well as increase the efficiency of their existing grid.
“Utilities looking to minimize costs while increasing efficiency and services are demanding more from their meters and networks. This new offering enables advanced metering and two-way communications - these are the meters of the future,” said Eric Dresselhuys, Vice President of Marketing. “The I-210+ meters equipped with the NIC will enable utilities to connect to their customers and to offer advanced applications, increasing efficiencies, improving service delivery and customer satisfaction.”
The I-210+ combined with the Silver Spring Networks’ NIC provides utilities with a cost efficient networked metering solution. The I-210+ equipped with the Silver Spring Networks’ NIC delivers on-demand and scheduled reads, multi-channel interval data, power outage and restoration alarms, events logs and more.
With Silver Spring Networks’ NIC inside, utility operators can remotely upgrade network firmware, reprogram metering parameters and monitor device operations from one’s desk no need for field visits. SSN-enabled I-210+ meters also act as a network relay for gas, water or other electric meters in the field, extending network coverage and reliability.
Measurement Canada approval covers the line of fully featured I-210+ electric meters including Forms 1S, 2S (single phase meters), Forms 3S, 4S (Transformer rated meters) and Forms 12S, 25S (Network meters). I-210+ meters with Silver Spring Networks NICs are available from GE in multiple forms.
