Scott Lang Presents Vision of Smart Utility Networks at Jefferies 3rd Annual Global Clean Technology Conference
New York City, May 2, 2007 - Scott Lang, President and CEO of Silver Spring Networks, presented an innovative vision for Smart Energy Networks at the Jefferies 3rd Annual Clean Tech Conference. Smart Energy Networks are IP-enabled utility networks that enable Smart Grid applications as well as make the current electrical grid considerably more efficient.
Global warming, rising energy prices, global energy security and energy efficiency are front-page news and top of mind for many industry leaders, investors and inventors. As a result, there are hundreds of companies, large and small, investing hundreds of millions of dollars developing an impressive variety of new products and technologies to make the grid more efficient. These include everything from distributed generation and energy storage technologies, to more efficient appliances, to smart-house technologies that allow users to better understand and control their energy use. The challenge is getting all of these devices connected. Silver Spring Networks helps utilities design, deploy and operate a common-networking platform that connects all of these devices, a Smart Energy Network.
Smart Energy Networks, based on Internet Protocol (IP), address many of the challenges of running multiple applications and devices on the same network. The IP suite delivers proven technologies for addressing, routing, quality of service and a host of related networking functions, all demonstrated at scale. Ubiquitous IP networking accelerates the adoption of new technologies and products. With IP, vendors can compete to develop best-of-breed products for a variety of applications, yet share a common network infrastructure to minimize cost and complexity. By delivering robust, IP-networks, Silver Spring Networks’ allow our customers to embrace this rapid expansion of products and avoid the technological limitations that have restricted them in the past.
About Silver Spring Networks
Silver Spring Networks leverages the power of open, standards-based IP technology, to create a two-way, Smart Grid network that connects utilities with their customers. This advanced utility network provides a scalable and reliable infrastructure from the substation to the customer premise, and dramatically improves efficiency, lowers costs and ensures the reliable delivery of services. This innovative network gives your utility greater flexibility to adapt to new technologies, products, and services–and can make a substantial difference to your bottom line, too.
