Downstream, the Access Point SG provides a highly-reliable connection to electricity, water and gas meters over a neighborhood area network (NAN). It contains a Silver Spring Networks network interface card for communication with intelligent endpoints, including meters, DR load switches and t-stats. The Access Point SG can also pass information through multiple Relay SGs, or through Silver Spring Networks-enabled electricity meters.
Since it has a backup battery, the Access Point SG can reliably route scheduled read and management tasks, even during an outage. Robust security ensures full regulatory compliance and network safety. With multiple paths to each endpoint, the Access Point SG provides wide area network connectivity to your utility’s mission-critical applications through digital cellular, ethernet or POTS. This flexibility enables you to leverage existing low-cost public carrier infrastructures.
